Description: | | Under general supervision, provides supportive nursing services to that segment of the Oakland County Jail population requiring the medical services of the physician. Is responsible for the health care assessments on assigned patients. Observes the patient's condition and reports any changes or reactions to medications or treatments and documents observations on the patient's record. Schedules and prepares patients for physical exams performed by the physicians. Orders and maintains an inventory of supplies and medications to ensure adequate supply levels in the clinic. Follows the division's Patient Bill of Rights, including reporting any observations of patient abuse or neglect. Shift assignments include weekend and holiday work and will include rotating days off. Must be willing to work any shift. Shifts routinely run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., although other shifts and hours may be assigned to ensure smooth running or emergency operations. Due to nature of the operation employees may be required to work overtime. Be licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
NOTE: Applicants who are not registered by the State of Michigan but have graduated from an accredited School of Nursing and possess a permit issued by the Michigan Board of Nursing may apply to take this examination. However, they will not be certified for appointment until proof of registration by the Michigan Board of Nursing has been submitted to the Human Resources Department.
Special Features or Conditions
Must maintain a current license or permit to function as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
Must submit annually to immunizations as well as a tuberculin skin test and/or chest x ray, at County expense.
Must obtain and maintain current Cardiopulmonary Respiratory (CPR) Certification.
A field investigation will be conducted covering an evaluation of employment, school, home, criminal, military, or other personal records. Any conviction or convictions for moving traffic violations, accidents, non-moving traffic violations, or violations of other laws will be reviewed by the Sheriff Department before an applicant can be appointed. Information obtained during the background investigation will be considered in the hiring decision. Convictions of the Domestic Violence Statute will be a disqualifying factor.

Examination Information
The examination will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's responses on the official employment application form that includes a questionnaire regarding the applicant's training and experience. Your responses will be scored. You will be notified of your results by mail and/or email.
The exam content as described above may be modified depending upon the number of applicants or other factors that influence the practicality or usefulness of this selection process. Where minor differences in actual test scores do not reflect meaningful differences in ability, those scores will be statistically grouped resulting in a tie among those applicants.
All applicants who are given favorable consideration for a position must complete a drug screen at the time of the employment physical.
Purpose of Examination
The purpose of this examination is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present or possible future vacancies in this classification. For each vacancy, a Department Director/Division Manager has the choice of the top five ranking persons, inclusive of tie scores, on the eligible list. Test scores and rank are only used for the purpose of placing applicants on eligible lists. Final hiring decisions are not based on actual numerical test scores or rank. This list will remain in effect for six months, unless exhausted, superseded by a new eligible list or extended for another six months by the Human Resources Committee.
