Purpose/Description

The Laborer will maintain building in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls, cleaning glass and removing rubbish. Duties may include performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, operating equipment and infrequent office work. Perform the janitorial needs of the facility. Part pick-up and delivery and forklift operation. Maintain building in clean and orderly condition. Required Knowledge:

  • Public Safety and Security Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, county safety operations for the protection of people and institutions.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and janitorial supplies.
  • This position does not supervise any employees.
  • Verbal instructions are given by management
  • Example of decisions made by this position are: When to clean shops, helping to assure mechanics are safe when working with them.

Required Tasks:

  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Pull trash within the Equipment Repair areas
  • Remove debris from work sites.
  • Maintain and use floor sweeper throughout the Equipment Repair areas on all floor surfaces
  • perform other custodial related duties as assigned during the day.
  • Gather and empty trash.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Request supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.
  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
  • Steam clean or shampoo carpets.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
  • Remove snow.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and or GED Equivalent.

Experience Requirements:

  • Must have a valid State of Michigan driver's license or valid State license of applicant residence with a safe and acceptable driving record. Proof of driving record required. Less than 7 points.
