Purpose/Description

The Wayne County Land Bank is seeking a highly capable and driven attorney to serve as its Legal Advisor. The Legal Advisor will oversee the Land Bank's core legal programs; provide legal advice and opinions on areas of property law and government administration; promote and implement strategic policy initiatives; ensure compliance with the Land Bank's regulatory scheme; and represent the Land Bank in litigation; among other responsibilities.

The Legal Advisor- Land Bank is a leader on the Land Bank's team who possesses the vision to implement new ideas and solve new problems. As part of the position, the Legal Advisor will interface closely with local residents, governmental partners, and policymakers. This position will serve a crucial role in furthering the Land Bank's core mission of stabilizing communities in Metro Detroit.

Required Tasks

• Operate Land Bank legal programs
• Draft and negotiate contractual agreements
• Work with the Executive Director on Land Bank strategy and visioning
• Work with the Operations Director on programmatic monitoring and enforcement
• Serve as the Land Bank's lead litigation counsel
• Provide counsel on a range of legal issues, primarily in the fields of property law and governmental law and regulation
• Ensure compliance with the Land Bank's bylaws, policies, and statutory scheme
• Draft and implement policies and programs

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational/Experience Requirements

• A Juris Doctor from an accredited Law School
• Licensed to practice law in Michigan
• In good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
• Three to five years prior experience in assigned practice area.
• Experience in property law, real estate, and governmental policy preferred
