Description

The Parks Marketing and Outreach Student Intern 2 supports Wayne County Parks in promoting programs, events, and park amenities to the community. This internship provides hands-on experience in marketing, communications, community engagement, and event promotion while helping increase awareness and participation in parks and recreation services.

 

Required Knowledge:

  • Ability to analyze information, summarize findings, and present results clearly.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics.
  • Capacity to adapt to different work environments and learn new systems and procedures.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and adherence to county policies and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required Tasks:

  • Assist in developing and implementing marketing campaigns for parks programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Create content for social media platforms, newsletters, and the department website.
  • Design flyers, posters, and promotional materials for community distribution.
  • Help coordinate outreach efforts to schools, community groups, and local organizations.
  • Assist with promotion and support of community events, festivals, and recreational programs.
  • Collect photos and videos at parks and events for marketing use.
  • Conduct basic research on marketing trends, community engagement strategies, and comparable park systems.
  • Help maintain marketing calendars and outreach contact lists.
  • Track and report engagement metrics (social media reach, attendance numbers, etc.).
  • Provide general administrative support to the Parks & Recreation team as needed.

Educational Requirements:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university program, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Recreation Management, or a related field.

Experience Requirements:

  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, TikTok).
  • Basic graphic design skills using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Photography or video editing experience preferred
  • Event planning or outreach experience preferred
