The Parks Stewardship Volunteer Coordinator Student Intern 2 supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of volunteer programs that help maintain and enhance park lands. This role assists with recruiting, organizing, and supporting volunteers who participate in stewardship activities such as habitat restoration, trail maintenance, invasive species removal, and community clean-ups. The intern gains hands-on experience in volunteer management, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.

 

Required Knowledge:

  • Ability to analyze information, summarize findings, and present results clearly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with staff, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Capacity to adapt to different work environments and learn new systems and procedures.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and adherence to county policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic conservation or restoration practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or volunteer management systems.

Required Tasks:

  • Assist with recruiting, registering, and communicating with volunteers.
  • Help coordinate volunteer schedules, project assignments, and event logistics.
  • Maintain volunteer records, hours tracking, and program databases.
  • Support planning and execution of stewardship events such as:
    • Tree plantings
    • Park clean-ups
    • Habitat restoration projects
    • Trail maintenance days
  • Prepare volunteer materials including waivers, safety guidelines, and orientation information.
  • Assist with set-up and breakdown of volunteer events.
  • Help promote volunteer opportunities through social media, newsletters, and community outreach.
  • Support partnerships with schools, community groups, and local organizations.
  • Provide positive engagement and support for volunteers during events.
  • Participate in field work including invasive species removal, planting, and general park maintenance.
  • Update volunteer databases and maintain program documentation.
  • Help compile volunteer reports and impact summaries.
  • Assist with evaluating volunteer programs and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • May travel to other locations.

Educational Requirements:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university program, preferably in Environmental Studies, Parks & Recreation, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience with volunteer coordination or community engagement preferred.
  • Valid driver's license
