DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES

The Iron Worker Foreman will be responsible for all of the duties listed, but not limited to the following: directly supervise and coordinate activities of Iron Worker Sub Foreman and Iron Worker tradesmen. The Iron Worker Foreman is responsible for providing technical expertise ensuring that all safety procedures are followed; trains new employees, plan and issue work schedules, disciplines procedures, complete daily time sheets, overtime records and requisitions, order materials and distribute supplies and equipment. Directs, participates and supervise staff, who raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks. Along with duties inherent in the supervision of employees, the Iron Worker Foreman, may work directly with the public and is expected to facilitate a professional relationship.

Tasks Required

  • Supervise staff of Iron Workers
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of security doors, roll-up doors and gates
  • Oversee maintenance and repair for all Jell Cell Sliding Doors.
  • Oversee installation & maintenance of new paracentric security locks in all Jail Divisions
  • Direct and design layout and fabrication of ornamental iron work
  • Oversee building maintenance and attend meetings with buildings Division Management
  • Order and maintain materials and repair parts for the Metal Shop
  • Procure materials and repair parts for all Wayne County facilities.
  • Read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of materials required.
  • Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.

Educational/Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State of Michigan Operators License
  • Candidates considered for placement in this classification will be subject to multiple Criminal background investigations.
  • Five (5) years as Journeymen Foreman, seven (7) preferred.
  • At least three (3) years within the last five (5) years of experience as a Commercial Iron Worker.
