DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES

The Iron Worker is responsible for all of the duties listed, but not limited to the following: raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks; may erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings.

 

Tasks Required

  • Coordinate, schedule, train and assign work to Iron Worker Apprentices.
  • Direct and design layout and fabrication of ornamental iron work
  • Read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of materials required.
  • Analyze defects and makes repairs to all steel, aluminum and metal equipment stairs, doors, jail doors, ramps, and ladders
  • Assemble all components of boilers using hand tools, power tools, or welding equipment.
  • Install and maintenance of steel roll up, overhead and garage doors.
  • Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors. Bolt aligned structural steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding into place.
  • Fasten structural steel members to hoist cables, using chains, cables, or rope.
  • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.
  • Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.
  • Erect metal or precast concrete components or structures, such as buildings, bridges, dams, dowers, storage tanks, fences, or highway guard rails.
  • Force structural steel members into final positions, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, or hand tools.
  • Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks to move heavy equipment or materials.
  • Fabricate metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or instruction from supervisors.
  • Dismantle structures or equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

Educational/Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Possession of a Bricklayer Journeyman License
  • Candidates considered for placement in this classification will be subject to multiple Criminal background investigations
  • At least three (3) years of Bricklayer Journeyman experience; five (5) years preferred as a Bricklayer Journeyman

 

  • THIS IS A SECOND SHIFT POSITION. MONDAY-FRIDAY
