Attending commission, committee and special committee meetings as well as those of the Wayne County Ethics Board, Citizens Criminal Justice Advisory Board, Zoo Authority and Art Institute Authority. Livestream them and preserve them on the commission's YouTube channel.
Post and update meeting schedules, agendas and commission journals and related material on the commission web page.
Maintain the commission's Facebook page by posting highlights of commission meetings and related events.
Compiles news stories from print and electronic sources on commission, county and related topics on a daily basis and send them to commissioners and staff via email.
Prepared news releases on commission activities to send to area media and post them on the commission's web page, Facebook page and internal news site on Sharepoint.
Photograph and film commission activities to post on the webpage and Facebook.
Prepare material letters for individual commissioners in partnership with their staff.
Create material for select commissioners' annual calendars for end-of-the-year distribution to constituents.
Write speeches for commissioners, upon request, for delivery at community and other public events.
Prepare resolutions, certificates and memoriams on behalf of individual commissioners and the commission as a whole.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science, or Public Administration.
Two (2) - Five (5)+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, government communications, or public affairs.
Experience working in government, public sector, or a political office is highly preferred.
Proven track record of working with local and regional media outlets.
Experience preparing press releases, media advisories, talking points, newsletters, and social content.
Background in crisis communication or handling sensitive public information is a plus.
Knowledge & Skills
Strong understanding of county government operations, public meetings, and legislative processes.
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills-AP Style proficiency often required.
Ability to craft clear messaging for diverse audiences (residents, media, elected officials).
Ability to develop and maintain media lists and handle journalist inquiries promptly.
Strong social media management skills (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn).

Technical Competencies
Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) used by government agencies.
Ability to use graphic design or media tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar.
