Purpose/Description

The Senior Accountant I in the Wayne County Treasurer's Office, Cash Accounting Department work under the general supervision of the Department Manager 2 and the Supervisor of Cash Management-Cash Accounting performs the most difficult and complex accounting work involving independent professional judgment. This position is responsible for the development of spreadsheets and utilizing other computer software in the completion of their duties. Employees in this classification also assist independent auditors, internal auditors and other County departments as directed by the manager. In addition, the Senior Accountant 1 will serve as a team leader, assisting the Department Manager in training new staff, providing technical expertise and reviewing the work of accounting technicians and accountants.







Required Tasks

  • Process and compile the daily polling and investment reports, identify discrepancies, and post to the Resiq2 system
  • Monitor and settle the positive pay exceptions daily
  • Reconcile the Controlled Disbursement Account monthly
  • Monitor the Stadium Excise payments, create late & missing payment spreadsheets and correspondence, file liens, and work with Corporation Counsel and the Auditor General to identify and assess for non-compliance
  • Reconcile and disburse the Stadium Excise Tax monthly
  • Reconcile and disburse 911 Surcharge collections quarterly
  • Prepare voucher and journal entries when necessary
  • Assist other Wayne County departments with printed check inquiries
  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Prepare journal entries related to daily cash activity and record the entries in RESIQ2, the WCTO cash accounting program
  • Run quarterly reports and reconcile to payment entries for 911 surcharge revenue
  • Record receipts of stadium excise tax revenue (hotel and car rental)
  • Assist in the preparation of stadium excess tax collection reports and disbursements
  • Monitor excise tax collections and initiate collection efforts
  • Serve as a backup cashier when needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.



Educational and Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Statistics, Economics or a closely related field; AND
  • Three years (3) full time paid professional experience in accounting.
