DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES

Bridge Workers are responsible for performing maintenance, such as inspecting drivers, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, and replacing filters; repairing machines, equipment, or structures using various tools; operating cutting and welding equipment; inspecting, operating and testing machinery; performing building and property cleaning; and cleaning and repairing pump houses along with other related duties as assigned.

ELIGIBLE PERSONS:

At the time of application, eligible persons must have:

  • A High School Diploma or its equivalent; AND
  • A valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an "A" designation (including airbrake test); AND
  • At least one (1) year full-time paid experience working in the construction industry maintaining and repairing structures or equipment; AND
  • An acceptable safe driving record. (INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON THE FRONT OF APPLICATION).

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Candidates must, within the first four (4) months of their probationary period, obtain an "N" endorsement. If the CDL endorsement is not obtained, the employee will be removed from the Bridge Worker position pursuant to the Department of Personnel/Human Resources and Department of Public Services' procedures.

TYPES OF TESTS

A Written test may be administered covering the knowledge of machines, tools, and the repair of highway and road structures, maintenance, and construction of bridges, trade practices, basic math, safe driving practices and related information.
