Electricians perform journeyman electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Oral or written assignments, which may be accompanied by penciled sketches or blueprints, are received from a supervisor, who checks the work in progress and/or upon completion. Electricians usually work independently following accepted trade practices. Electricians assigned to the Bridges/Structures section frequently work with Bridge Mechanics and may indirectly supervise some employees. Electricians will troubleshoot and test electrical systems and apparatuses, write field and time reports, follow up on complaints as directed by supervision, provide electrical maintenance of state and county pump houses and moveable bridges, operate hand and power tools, fill out reports and logs, assess and resolve electrical problems, operate CDL equipment and other duties as assigned.
